Massmart have had a fantastic year to June with sales reaching the magical R30 billion mark. This was a goal set by CEO Mark Lamberti at the beginning of the year, and it is this kind of result that has earned him a reputation as "Mr. Delivery". In his time at Massmart, Lamberti has had an uncanny knack of being able to deliver all that he promises, bang on time. He has taken the Massmart group from a loss making wholesaler to a powerful retailer with a bright and clearly sustainable future. Innovation and strategic purchases have been the drivers in the growth of the business and the group has more than once been able to position themselves in sectors that seem to show almost impossibly high growth rates after their entry.
This year we will see the retirement of Mark Lamberti and it's going to be a huge loss for Massmart and the industry as a whole. The FMCG Direct team would like to take this opportunity to thank him for all the effort he has put into retailing and wish him all the best in his retirement.
