Tight like a Tiger

Tight like a Tiger
Tiger brands released their interim results for the past six months showing most divisions performing well. The Fishing and Exports divisions however, may be areas of concern for management as they did not perform as well as expected by analysts.
Also in the news, one of South Africa's large food exporters, Illovo Sugar looks set to sell a controlling interest in their business to Associated British Foods. AB Foods will gain access to low cost sugar production and by 2009 will benefit from duty free exports into Europe through its African divisions. Illovo will also benefit greatly through selling produce in Europe using AB Foods brands and infrastructure.
How many other South African food producers offer similarly attractive prospects to global producers? Time will tell.
